Pledge Day 2009
When: 6:00am - 6:00pm, on Friday December 4th, 2009
Where: Westin Calgary (320 - 4th Ave. SW)
Last year we raised $212,000.00!
Most of the charities we give to are very small, grassroots groups who provide services to children who are mentally, physically or financially disadvantaged. After-school programs, summer camps, and food and nutrition in school (lunches provided) are just a few of the types of programs that receive funding.
This year, we also gave donations to a couple of larger children’s charities. Hull Child and Family Services, Boys and Girls Club and the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre also received funding for the unique and dedicated work they do with our young people.
We know there are lots of choices for charitable donations at Christmas time, but the QR77/Westin Hotel Calgary Children’s Foundation prides itself in supporting the quiet, small, ‘little guy’ charities that do not have as many resources as other groups might have.
We like to get to the grass-roots groups who are doing incredible work one-on-one with some of our city’s highest needs kids. Often, the forgotten ones….
The charities that received funding this year are:
- Boys and Girls Club FANS (food and nutrition in school – provides lunches to kids in school)
- Hull Child and Family Services (summer recreation programs)
- Easter Seals (partial funding for an accessible vehicle for paraplegic child)
- Between Friends Club (summer camp for mentally disabled kids)
