What does the Calgary Children's Foundation do?
The Calgary Children's Foundation raises money throughout the year
which is then given to non profit children's societies and
organizations. In addition to a variety of smaller events, the majority
of our money is donated by listeners and advertisers during CHQR's
Radio's Pledge Day.
Pledge Day 2007 raised over $200,000! for the Foundation.
What is Pledge Day?
It's a 12 hour live radio broadcast from the lobby of the Westin Hotel.
While children's choirs and local entertainers perform, pledges of
financial support are called in by CHQR listeners. Individuals,
retailers and corporations who have raised funds for the Calgary
Children's Foundation through out the months prior to Pledge Day are
welcome to present their cheques on-air. We also invite local
celebrities and sports personalities to be a part of the radio program.
How can I make a donation?
Donations are accepted at AM 770 CHQR Radio, where a receipt will be issued.
You can mail a cheque or money order to:
Calgary Children's Foundation,
P.O. Box 48043, 40 Midlake Blvd. S.E.,
Calgary,
AB T2X 3C7.
We
accept VISA and Mastercard as well. Donations of goods are also welcome
and a tax receipt will be issued for your donation " in kind ".
You can call 403-974-8255, and you can also donate online by clicking the Make a Donation button above.
How can my business get involved?
If you have a fund raising idea, i.e., donating a portion of sales of a
particular item, you will be considered a donor fund-raiser. You will
need to sign an agreement of your intentions to raise funds for the
Calgary Children's Foundation that specifies the time period over which
you will conduct the fluid raising. When you have completed your
project, you'll be asked to present your cheque on Pledge Day in
December at the Westin Hotel. Advertising on AM 770 to promote your
event or initiative MAY be available to you, upon approval of the
administrator and AM 770 CHQR Sales Manager.
How much money does the Calgary Children's Foundation spend on administrative costs?
Many of our overhead costs are absorbed by AM 770 CHQR Radio and The
Westin Hotel. At present we have one paid, part time administrator and
we are responsible for office supplies and materials related to fluid
raising events. Our administrative costs are less than 10% of our
annual revenue.
What are the Calgary Children's Foundation's guidelines for funding?
Basically, we fund organizations that give money to children in need -
physically, emotionally, mentally and financially. While we do fund
larger organizations that are doing great work in Southern Alberta,
preference is given to small, grass roots groups that are working
directly with children to improve their lives. The Calgary Children's
Foundation does not fund administrative costs.
If I make application to the Calgary Children's Foundation, how much can I expect?
We have a very small budget and the demand for funding grows every
year. Most successful applicants ask for less than $ 20,000.00.
I see you don't fund administration costs - how do you define those?
Administration costs means rent, utilities, administrative staff
salaries, office supplies, postage, taxes etc. We will grant funding
for professional salaries, i.e. therapists, teachers or caregivers,
necessary furniture & equipment including computers for children
and sports equipment, games, books, wheelchairs etc.
When should I submit my application?
The deadline to submit applications is always March 31. Our board of
directors reviews all applications approximately the third week of
April and cheques are usually issued in May.
Do you have exceptions to this deadline?
From time to time we have emergency situations where a child is in pain
and must receive funding immediately, especially in circumstances where
the treatment for relief is not covered by Alberta Health Care or
insurance. The board may grant funding at any time in these situations.
Application must be made to receive emergency funds.
