A group which advocates for responsible, sustainable living in Calgary suggests the days of urban sprawl are far from over.
In fact, they believe it's about to get worse, thanks to amendments approved to the Plan It Calgary document.
Naheed Nenshi with the 'Better Calgary Campaign' explains why reducing density targets in the 60-year growth plan from 70 people per hectare to 60, is such a big deal.
"The big problem is that to go from 70 to 60, actually takes you from Garrison Woods, to something around Tuscany today. And if the whole point of Plan It, that kind of urban sprawl is unsustainable, then we've just codified it, instead of getting rid of it.
City council approved the change to Plan It on Monday to appease developers who complained the plan limited people's ability to chose to live in a spacious suburban neighbourhood.
