There was a moment of silence at Calgary city hall on Monday for an Alberta soldier killed in Afghanistan late last week.
Mayor Dave Bronconnier paid tribute to 24-year-old Sapper Stephen Marshall who was born and raised in Calgary.
"We offer our sincere condolences," Bronconnier said.
Some 2300 Canadian and foreign troops gathered on Kandahar Airfield's tarmac yesterday to pay their last respects as Marshall's flag draped coffin boarded a plane home.
His body is to arrive at CFB Trenton on Tuesday afternoon.
