The Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board has announced that it is no longer issuing licenses for sour oil and gas wells, or pipeline applications.
The board says it first wants to carefully review an Alberta Court of Appeal ruling made last week.
The ERCB says it recognizes the importance of the ruling and wants to determine the impact of the ruling on the sour oil and gas applications process, and develop an appropriate response.
Until then, it will continue to only accept and process applications.
Currently, 69 applications are affected.
