WestJet's third quarter profits plunge

Calgary-based WestJet made money in the third quarter, but significantly less than the same period in 2008.
The airline reports net earnings of $31.4 million, or 24 cents per share, compared to $57.9 million in the third quarter of 2008, or 45 cents per share.
WestJet President and CEO Sean Durfy says the airline is happy to have turned a profitable quarter in a time of economic instability, and eroded consumer confidence.
Durfy also points out 2009 has been marked by relief from significantly lower fuel costs.
