The Commons has voted in principle for a bill that would end the federal gun registry.
The private members' bill passed second reading by a vote of 164 to 137.
Tory Saskatewan MP Garry Breitkreuz is very pleased to see it go through after 15 years of work.
He says it is a waste of money and unfairly targets responsible gun owners... even exposing them to theives looking for guns.
The legislation now goes to committee for further study and possible amendment.
if all goes as planned, the bill will reach the senate next summer.
