The swift firing of a senior Alberta bureaucrat for approving H1N1 vaccinations for the Calgary Flames organization has raised eyebrows and further criticism of the Stelmach government.
"The bureaucrat has become a scapegoat for the minister," said Alberta Liberal leader David Swann. "I don't think anybody is fooled."
But health minister Ron Leipert said the firing sends a message that favourtism won't be tolerated.
"Frankly, I wish this person had said no to this and none of this would have existed," added Flames President Ken King.
"Our reputation is paying a great price."
A number of Facebook pages are popping up asking people to boycott the Flames.
Page creator Dave Paliwoda argues professional athletes, who are in top physical form, should be last in line.
Paliwoda admits the page won't likely change much, but believes it's important for people to be able to vent.
King added he plans to speak with the staffer who approved the shots because he believes the person paid a huge penalty for believing they had done the right thing.
