It is a crucial weekend for Alberta Tories in Red Deer as they vote on whether to hold a leadership review of Premier Ed Stelmach.
However, if you listen to his cabinet ministers, a leadership review is the last thing the party needs as it deals with the current economic situation.
Transportation Minister Luc Ouelette says he firmly believes Stelmach will get great support on the weekend.
He says then the government can move forward and work on the really important
things that need to be done in Alberta and that's to have this province come out of the recession in a lot better shape than other areas of the country.
"I honestly believe that we're just trying to talk about negative stuff when negative stuff isn't there. I believe that the premier will be supported."
Ouelette says the premier has a plan to move the province forward and is a good leader.
Mount Royal University political scientist Keith Brownsey says Stelmach will need to win strong support to stay in power - at least 70 percent.
Recent polls have shown the Stelmach Tories slipping in the polls, and Brownsey says the government's handling of the H1N1 vaccination program could also be a factor.
