The Calgary Parking Authority board is defending general manager Dale Fraser following criticism from aldermen and the media in recent days.
Fraser has been under fire for budget items calling for increased parking fines and extended parking hours including paid sunday parking downtown.
The board says it directed Fraser to look for ways to come up with more money and approved his recommendations.
But the board says no parking increases can be implemented without councils say-so.
In the statement, the CPA board says 65 per cent of parking fees and 100 of penalties go into the city's general revenues.
