The arson unit is investigating after two people died in a garage fire in northeast Calgary early Friday night.
Fire crews were called to the Marlborough area and found a vehicle in the garage up on jacks, leading investigators to believe the two victims may have been working on the car.
Department spokesman Jeff Budai said initial indications suggest the fire was not deliberately set but the arson squad was brought in as a precaution.
Paul Gozdawa-Boczkowski, who lives across the alley from where the fire broke out, said he heard popping noises before seeing the flames on the outside of the garage.
His sister Saz said she heard what sounded like a small explosion coming from the garage earlier in the evening.
Genders and ages of the victims have yet to be released.
