Despite a meeting next week between Tsuu Tina Chief Sandford Big Plume and Mayor Dave Bronconnier, the city and province are very close to signing a "memorandum of understanding" on the southwest ring road.
The memorandum won't talk about the exact route or engineering for the project, but will basically set the stage for the city and province to get to work on coming up with a plan for the ring road on city-owned land.
Premier Ed Stelmach says he doesn't have a timetable for the project, but wants to see it happen sooner rather than later.
"Simply because we're getting very very good tenders on construction, especially moving earth, 20 to 40 per cent reductions. And now is the time to capture the slowness in the economy."
Meantime, the Tsuu Tina have asked for a meeting with the mayor on Wednesday, to air their concerns about ensuring access is maintained to their land off 37th Street southwest once any new road is built.
