One man has been killed after blowing snow and icy roads made for treacherous driving conditions in central and southern Alberta. Airdrie RCMP reported several collisions on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway between Carstairs and Airdrie. In one multi-vehicle pileup, a 21-year-old man got out of his car and tried to run to the safety of the ditch when he was struck by another vehicle and died instantly. As a result, the highway was closed for more than five hours. Later on Friday evening, the highway was reopened.
