A new report by the Calgary-based Canada West Foundation warns of the dire consequences bad climate change policy in the oilsands could have on the national economy.
The Look Before You Leap study suggests environmental challenges are no less important than economic prosperity, but Canada West says the nation's financial future depends on Alberta.
For example, the report says even a Canadian who has never been to the oilsands probably has a stake in it through mutual fund investments.
Like it or not, the report says, we're all in this together and suggests we search for environmental policies that will minimize the negative economic and social side-effects.
If oil and gas suffers, the western economy suffers and by extension, so does the national economy.
