Calgary police have taped off three areas of a normally quiet southeast community as they piece together what led to a pair of officers firing shots during a violent traffic stop.
A dark-coloured older model sedan is sitting in front of a home in the 16000 block of McKenzie Lake Boulevard with a smashed front end and what appear to be two bullet holes through the windsheild.
Police Inspector James Hardy says around 3am police stopped a vehicle, which rammed into one of the officers.
Hardy says police then opened fire hitting the male suspect at least once.
Hardy says both officers suffered minor injuries.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates all police-involved shootings, will be conducting an investigation to determine if the actions were justified.
