A gas well owned by Canadian Natural Resources is on fire in northwestern Alberta.
R-C-M-P Corporal Carole McKinley describes the blowout as an industrial incident, and says it's not suspicious.
"There are no injuries or evacuations," she said. "The nearest residence is about 7.4 kilometres from the site and the residents have been notified."
Activist Weibo Ludwig lives not far from the site and said he could see the fire from his compound.
Alberta's Energy Resources Conservation Board says the well -- 22 kilometres northwest of Hythe -- blew out at around 3am while a crew was working at the rig.
Bob Curran, spokesman for the Energy Resources Conservation Board, says the fire is burning off potentially deadly hydrogen sulphide gas.
