After consideration by the judge in the Christopher Watcheston murder case, a defence witness was allowed to testify on the effect of the salvia drug that the accused said he took the night he raped and killed Arcelie Laoagan two years ago.
However, under cross-examination, retired police drug unit detective Stephen Walton, now a consultant who conducts seminars on drug awareness, told court that salvia only produces a high lasting perhaps two minutes, so the effect would have worn off by the time the accused met up with the victim.
Closing arguments in the case are expected Tuesday.
