Calgary Transit is moving forward in developing ways for customers not to have to pay their fare with cash.
The city is looking at developing a smart card that can be used to pay for fares at LRT stations.
Aldermen on the Transportation Committee heard that transit is waiting for results of a request for proposals on developing an electronic smart card similar to what is in place in many other major cities.
Transit officials hope to have alternate payment options in place by 2012.
