Jock's Blog - Off season wish list!

Stampeder head coach and General Manager John Hufnagel is going to have a busy off season! His number one priority is to sign CFL rushing leader Joffrey Reynolds. As Huf told us last night on Sportstalk, Reynolds is well paid and he will continue to be well paid! What I don't understand however is why Reynolds only had 12 carries in the West Final? He was unstoppable in the first quarter and then the Stamps went away from him!

It looks like three players are going to give the NFL a shot! Sandro DeAngelis, Chareslton Hughes and Brandon Browner. All three would be huge losses for this football club and while Hughes is an unrestricted free agent, Browner still has an option on his contract so most likely he will be back. Hughes was good down the stretch but not dominate like John Chick or Stevie Baggs. If Hughes doesn't lower his salary expectations, his days as a Stampeder could be over!

DeAngelis is an interesting case study. He has a new Tampa based agent as he did not even get a sniff at a tryout in the NFL last year. While Sandro is a great kicker, I am told a lot of NFL scouts are not impressed with his leg strength, as this is a big factor on kick offs. Sandro is an unrestricted free agent, so if he doesn't get an NFL deal he can shop himself around the CFL. He certainly didn't give the Stamps organization a glowing endorsement yesterday that he will be back. The end result, Hufnagel and Jim Barker are now in the market for a place kicker.

Number one on the off season shopping list for the Stamps is a kick return specialist. Dion Murphy was on the Stamps practice roster at the end of the season, but he still has to be signed. My guess is the Stamps will be very active on the free agent market this season.

Don't forget, the Stamps may be out, but AM770 CHQR is still your home for the Grey Cup. I am honoured to host a 2 hour national pre game show on Sunday. We will be live on the air from McMahon Stadium at 2:30. The play by play duties will be handled by Rod Pederson of Regina and Rick Moffat of Montreal.

Thanks for a great season!
